Reading

Welcome to reading with Mrs. Simonds!

Reading skills mastered in the early grades enable a child to be a successful reader in all future grades in school.  A child has more reading skills to master in kindergarten and first grade than any other grades in school.  Please be sure to practice reading with your child each and every day!

Dolch Word Practice Activities for families

You should read with your child each night as part of your routine.  It is fun for them, fun for you and GREAT practice for them!  If you would like to keep track of your reading times feel free to download the reading log!  This will allow you to be sure you are getting books in front of your child daily.  Set a 15 minute timer and go for it!

Take turns reading, have them read to you and ask questions about the story AND the pictures!
